Hey, hello, hi, hi...
How are you? I hope you’re good. It's only gone and become bloomin' June already!
Huge thank you to Harold Heath, our guest last week, for a brilliant mixtape and for joining me to chat about his life in music and his book too. If you missed it you can . We've got some more exciting guests coming up over the next few months, so hold tight.
Until then, you're stuck with me.
The last two weeks have been pretty jammed with work, half-term, party planning (more below), and the launch of Common People, so unfortunately there's no show / podcast this week, just the mixtape. Normal service will be resumed soon.
Quick update on the party; we're now fully booked, so we've started a waiting list in case we have any one who can't make it. If you'd like to join the waiting list, please message me here. The party is on the 2nd July, and it's already shaping up to be pretttttttty special ❤️
This week's mixtape is made up entirely of the amazing records I bought a few weeks ago at a car boot sale. (Sorry for anyone expecting Nightmares on Wax - I just stole the name.) I'm still reeling at how good the selection on sale was, especially given that they were £1 each. One pound. There's music from D'Angelo, Young Disciples, The Brand New Heavies, Crown Heights Affair, Incognito, Groove Committee, Kerri Chandler - it's honestly jam-packed with great music. And all for £30. Still reeling. Unbelievable.
Right, onwards!
Stay safe, stay happy, and stay in touch.
See you on the dancefloor,
Jed x
PS. If you're new then this is how it works. Here’s what you’ve missed so far. And this is me.
PPS. If you're still reading this bit here, then would you mind sending this email on to a few friends that might like it? Or tweeting about it or posting it on Facebook? Thank you!
🌪 TL;DR Section 🌪
The TL;DR Section is a little different at the moment, as I've been trying to read more books, so naturally my other reading has shrunk a little.
What I've just finished reading
Afeni Shakur, by Jasmine Guy (absolutely incredible, highly recommend)
Girl, Woman, Other, by Bernardine Evaristo (also highly recommend)
What I'm reading next
I'm also playing catch up on new issues of some great magazines too, namely;
Like The Wind (an excellent indie running mag - also if you're into running, I made a list of 36 things I've learnt since becoming 'a runner' here)
Some interesting stuff
The PCSC Bill has far further reaching consequences than I realised
Ben Cardew is publishing a new book on Daft Punk's Discovery in Autumn (Velocity Press is on fire)
And finally, I watched Rams recently (it's amazing), and also I believe I became the final person on the planet to watch (and love) Fleabag.
